Pokemon Type System FAQ

How do dual-type defensive multipliers work?

The multipliers of both types are multiplied together. For example, if a Ground/Steel Pokemon is hit by a Water-type move (2x weakness for Ground, 1x for Steel), it takes 2x damage. If hit by Fire (1x for Ground, 2x weakness for Steel), it takes 2x. If hit by Poison (0.5x resistance for Ground, 0x immunity for Steel), it takes 0x damage.

What is the maximum damage multiplier in Pokemon?

The maximum is 4x, which happens when both of a Pokemon's types are weak to the attacking move (e.g., a Flying/Water Pokemon takes 4x damage from Electric moves).
